CELAN/ANCEL

 

The poet, once, in Paris,

saw a black flag

that canceled hope.

 

Kind physician,

my eyes are weak, he said.

 

He, too, had jumped the line,

had seen too much.

 

Take this tincture

of celandine–it will

restore the sight.
